two Mexican fruit cups on a cutting board with some limes

May 5, 2021

We may not be able to travel around the world right now, but that only means we have to get more creative in the ways we fulfil our wanderlust. There are plenty of museums and attractions that are now providing virtual tours. Countless movies and books will all give you inspiration for your first trip after the pandemic. Cooking is another great way you can explore different countries from the comfort of your own home. Food is such a big part of any trip abroad. The smell and taste of a dish can transport you to another world, with a bit of imagination. We’ve taken inspiration straight from Mexico to create this Mexican Style Fruit Cup with Kombucha!

If you’ve ever travelled to Mexico, then you’ve probably seen Mexican fruit cups being sold along the beach or in the markets at various food carts. Traditionally Mexican fruit cups are made with seasonal fresh fruit, such as jicama, mango, pineapple, melon and papaya, cut into cubes or spears. The fruit is then topped with lime juice, Tajin Seasoning and Chamoy Sauce. On its own, this salty, sweet, spicy treat has many health benefits and is excellent for hydration in the heat of the Mexican sun. We’ve kicked it up a notch by adding some Healthy Hooch Kombucha for added health benefits and delicious flavour. Enjoy this colourful Kombucha beverage while dreaming of walks along the white sand beaches in Mexico. See the full recipe below!

Ingredients You Will Need:

Healthy Hooch Kombucha – Any Healthy Hooch Kombucha flavour will work with this recipe, we used Pear Ginger for ours. Healthy Hooch Kombucha is raw, unpasteurized, organic kombucha made locally in Abbotsford, BC. You can learn more on our website.

Tajin SeasoningTajin is a popular seasoning from Mexico. You can find Tajin seasoning in some grocery stores here or substitute it for your favourite chilli lime seasoning. You can also try making your own with chilli powder, lime zest and salt but it won’t be as sweet tasting as the Tajin seasoning.

Fresh Seasonal Fruit – For this recipe, we used mango, watermelon, cantaloupe and Jicama but feel free to mix it up. You can even add some cucumber in there if you like.

Chamoy Sauce – We’ve made our own plum sauce in place of the Chamoy for this recipe but you can make it either way. Chamoy sauce is a condiment from Mexico that is made with fresh fruit like plums, apricots or mango with lime and spices added to it. You can find it in speciality Mexican grocery stores.
